About Us

About Marlin Coast Family Day Care

Providing Cairns with High Quality Childcare For 47 Years.

We are committed to providing an exemplary Family Day Care service, and have been doing so since 1977.

Marlin Coast Family Day Care operate under the National Quality Framework and believe that all children, regardless of their location or setting, deserve the best care in their earliest years.

Establishing relationships and involvement from the wider community is a vital aspect when supporting children to become confident and involved learners within the world around them. By embracing these community connections, it has allowed us to further embed diversity and remain inclusive in our practice, curriculum, environments and relationships.

We do this by embracing cultural, traditional and community events, and also by involving families and local businesses in our training, excursion and playgroup sessions.

Our committee compromises of members of the community with invitations extended to become part of the committee on an annual basis; they maintain a high level of involvement throughout the scheme and have regular meetings with all those involved.

Frameworks & Standards

Marlin Coast Family Day Care Association Inc. Is a non for profit organisation, that is run by the approved provider and committee members.

Our services are regulated at the state level by the Office of Early Childhood Education and Care and at the Federal level by the Australian Children’s Education and Care Quality Authority.

The National Quality Framework assists Family Day Care educators in improving all areas of the service they provide that impact on a child’s learning and development. The framework empowers families to make informed choices about which service is best for their child.

The National Quality Framework encompasses a number of components that are structured to guide Educators and Day Care services on the best ways to deliver the best outcomes. These include:

  • National Quality Standards
  • Early Years Learning Framework
  • Framework for School Age Children
  • National Quality Rating and Assessment System

Our Philosophy

Quality outcomes for children... every child, everyday in care.

Children come into Family Day Care with a myriad of experiences, knowledge and skills, whatever age they are. Every child has a unique personality, temperament and individual learning style. Children are part of a family, a culture and a society that influences what and how they learn. It is crucial to respect each child’s unique personality, competencies and background.

At Marlin Coast Family Day Care we value the importance of the relationships that are formed between families, children, educators, co-ordinators and the broader community.

We strive to do this by:

  • Valuing the relationships children have with their family. We see the family as the most important connection a child has and support them in their individual desires for their child’s care and learning. We encourage and invite all families to become involved in their child’s program on a regular basis
  • We encourage and support respectful relationships with Coordination Unit staff and Educators and their families by open, honest communication, valuing each individuals opinions and utilising professional development opportunities.
  • We support and value the relationships children have with their Educators and value the unique care opportunities that Family Day Care provides to the community.
  • We consider the inclusion of community members to enrich the lives of young children, to allow them to experience new and meaningful interactions and broaden their understanding of a variety of people.

Marlin Coast Family Day Care values the importance and relevance of ‘play’ in a child’s life- children learn through play. Children learn best when the experiences they have are meaningful to THEM.

  • We aim to provide learning environments which are welcoming, safe, stimulating and encourage thoughtful, open-ended play.
  • We believe in the Early Years Learning Framework and uphold the ideals of Belonging, Being and Becoming and My Time- Our Place as a way to create holistic (all inclusive- whole of the child) approaches towards every child in care. We value these documents and use them to shape our practice across the service.
  • All children and parents are encouraged to contribute to the learning programme, based on the children’s knowledge, ideas, culture and customs, abilities and interests.

We embrace the cultural diversity of the community we live in, where values, rights and differing perspectives are respected and understanding and empathy are encouraged. We acknowledge that cultural diversity relates to gender, ethnicity, lifestyle, customs, beliefs, backgrounds and experiences.

We acknowledge our responsibility to educate young children about the importance of the natural world. We are conscious of our carbon footprint, and look at ways to minimise our effect on the natural environment.

We are committed to ongoing reflection of our practice, will participate in a continuous quality improvement plan and support each other’s ongoing professional and personal development.

Families, Educator’s, Management and the Coordination Unit are involved in developing policies, goals and decisions relating to Family Day Care.

We abide by the regulations and standards that are in place in order to provide, maintain and embrace a service that places an importance on safety, well-being and positive relationships.
